NEW SERIES: Is Entrepreneurship Right For You
Many of the candidates that I speak with often talk about (or have started to) going into business for themselves. They have the skills that people depend on in order to get a job done, so it seems that a layoff is a good time to start getting paid the real money.
Unfortunately, most of them don’t know what they’re in for. It’s not that they aren’t smart, very skilled, capable people. It’s just that they don’t quite know what the whole burden of “going into business” actually consists of.
In order to help out, I’m going to start a new series on various forms of entrepreneurship that will last…. well, I guess it’ll last until I peter out or you demand that I talk about something else. That could take anywhere between 1 day and several months. I’m guessing it’ll be somewhere in-between.
In any case, read on to discover my plans and give any input you have to make it better.
Here are the areas that I plan to cover (the links will appear as I complete that message):
- Different Ways of Starting Your Business
What is your Biggest Business Weakness?
Where To Find Good Business Advice
Sales and Marketing - The Life (Or Death) Of Your Business
The Value of Relationship In Your Business
The Biggest Causes of Small Business Failure
A Good Indicator That You’re Ready For Entrepreneurship
Do You Have A Good Reason For Starting A New Business?
What Is The Right Business For You?
How Much Money Do You Need To Get Started In Your Own Business?
If you’ve got some other areas that you’d like for me to cover, let me know. I’ll either do the research or have someone write who is already experienced in that area.
HERE’S WHERE TO START
If you’re thinking about starting this adventure, you have to start here. Rob over a Business Pundit wrote the best post-mortem summary on entrepreneurship that I’ve ever read. You must read this if you’re planning on going into business for yourself.
And please, please, PLEASE don’t make the mistake of saying, “Yeah - that was just him. I won’t run into those problems.” You will. Especially the time thing.
Accept that everything he’s listed there is basically part of the entrepreneur / start-up experience.
If you can deal with that, then let’s get started!
Enjoy the Search!
