A Good Indicator That You’re Ready for Entrepreneurship
[NOTE: This post is part of a series on Entrepreneurship 101 to give a kick-start to those who are thinking about starting their own business. Our regular Job-Seeking and Career-Improvement programming will continue soon!]
Before we get heavily underway with the meat-and-potatoes of this series, I thought I’d share a personal indicator that I’m an entrepreneur at heart.
Today, I’m sick. I’ve been coughing and sneezing for a couple days now. It’s one of those dry coughs that just wears you out without actually doing any good.
And it keeps you from sleeping well, too. So, as the saying goes, “I’m sick and tired!”
When my wife asked me how I felt this morning,I thought about it a little and truthfully said: “I feel 10 times better than I would after a typical day from my ‘old life’.” And she smiled and knew exactly what I was talking about.
In my old life, the typical day would consist of 2 hours of commuting, sitting in a cramped cube under flickering florescent lights, attending meeting after meeting where nothing gets done, and spending most of my time pushing against the internal bureaucracy to get something done for a customer that would take all of 10 minutes to do.
I can happily put in twice the hours while battling pneumonia and listening to my daughter’s repetitive, annoying, loud, and repetitive LeapPad… and still feel better at the end of that day than another one from my “old life”.
That, friends, is a good indicator that you’re ready for entrepreneurship.
