Want a Job? Here’s Where The Jobs Are.

If you want a job, go to where the jobs are!

How dedicated to finding a job are you, really?

The reason I ask is because there are jobs all over the place. And, frequently, your job is in another city. Or another state.

Are you willing to go get it? Do you know how it could accelerate your job search?

Read on to find out more…

“I’M LOOKING FOR A JOB WITHIN 3 SQUARE FEET OF WHERE I LIVE…”

Everyone has preferences when it comes to geography. We all want to live in one spot for more than 4 and a half minutes. There are friends and family and “putting down roots” and all.

Sometimes the candidates that I speak with get a little carried away with this. They want to get a job “within 10 miles of where I live”, which might be good for a small town, but in Houston, TX (the 4th largest city in the U.S.), it’s a little tougher.

Especially when they’ve chosen to live more than 10 miles away from the major employers in the area.

GO TO WHERE THE JOBS ARE

And I don’t mean where they have the most jobs in general. If there are a lot of jobs, but still fewer jobs than people, you’re still out of luck.

No, you need to find the locations where they have good jobs going unfilled. Over at MSN Real Estate, they recently published a list of 10 Low-Cost Locales Where Jobs Are Plenty.

Go look. I’m pretty sure I know what your response will be: “I don’t want to live there!”

I won’t get into how most places are, in the end, pretty similar. Or how any place is as good as you make it. Or how, if you visited them, you’d find out that these are pretty nice places.

No, I’ll just say this: “There” is where the jobs are.
