Dan Mails It In For Memorial Day: 5 Ways To Avoid Sick Days
Okay, it’s the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend and I’ll admit that I’m just mailing this one in. Give a guy a break, huh?
So, you want to avoid sick days? Here’s a story from the Associated Press about just how nasty your desk is.
“I’m mailing it in too, Dan,” you’re probably saying, “and I can’t work up the energy to click on the link. Just how nasty is my desk?”
Well, I’m here to help: “The average office desktop has 400 times more bacteria than the average office toilet seat”.
But that’s not all: “[The study] found 75 percent of women had munchies in their desks.”
Eating snacks off of the toilet seat, anyone?
Read on to find 5 big ways to avoid sick days.
THE 5 WAYS TO AVOID SICK DAYS
So, here are the specific things you can do to avoid getting sick at work:
- Keep Your Hands Away From Your Face! - The biggest causes of getting sick are rubbing infected hands in your eyes or picking your nose. Come on - let’s just stop the nose picking all together!
- Stay Away From Women’s Desks - Don’t be fooled by neatness - it’s a jungle on women’s desks! From the story: “Women’s desks typically looked cleaner. But the knickknacks are more abundant, and cosmetics and hand lotions make prime germ-transfer agents, Gerba said. Makeup cases also make for fine germ homes, along with phones, purses and desk drawers.”
- Stop Messing With Your Wallet - We all know you’re wealthy. Stop showing off. It’ll get you sick: “It’s in your back pocket where it’s nice and warm, it’s a great incubator for bacteria”
- Food Attracts Bugs of All Sorts. And, Apparently, Women. - “Food in desk drawers also harbors lots of microorganisms, and it is more abundant among female office workers. Gerba found 75 percent of women had munchies in their desks.”
- And Stop Fondling Your Crackberry! - “Another hot spot for bacteria in men’s offices: the personal digital assistant.” Since you can’t keep your hands off of it, your germing it up big time.
So, I hope you’ll use all of this information to keep those sick days for when it’s important: when it’s really nice outside and you don’t feel like going to work!
