So you’ve been writing on your “resume blog” (or “career blog”, if you wish) and are slowly building up your base of readers.

Did you know that you could also use your blog to win some pretty cool stuff? There are some blogs that are so desperate to increase their link rating on Technorati that they’ll give away some pretty good stuff to get those links.

The great thing is that there are so many blogs around the Internet that your odds of winning these things is pretty good because there are (relatively speaking) so few entries.

Let’s put it this way: if you’ve ever entered Publisher’s Clearinghouse contests (where the odds are around 50,000,000 to 1), you should be entering every single on of these (where the odds are more like 2000 to 1).

I’ll give you some examples of those today, but you can also be thinking about doing this for your blog if you have something cool to give away, too.

WIN PRIZES IN BLOG CONTESTS WHILE PROMOTING YOUR BLOG

A quick note before I talk about what you could win using your blog. How about a sure thing? See that link above for “Get Paid to Review My Post”? It’s a sure thing. You sign up, you post, you get paid. It might be only $7.50, but for 5 minutes work, that’s a rate of $90/hr. Not bad from the comfort of your own home.

Now, on to the blog contests you could win:

5 Minutes for Mom is giving away a 37″ LCD Flat-Panel HDTV. Not bad for a blog posting, no? Be sure to mention that the nice folks at Best Buy are supplying the prize.

Webomatica is having a contest to nominate the best/worst “so bad they’re good” movies you know of. Prize is a $20 Amazon code.

John Chow dot Com, a blog that helps you make money is giving away a 24? wide screen LCD monitor! To enter, you just have to write about it. Sorta like I’m doing now. The contest is sponsored by BlueFur, who wants to let you know that they’re hosting Canada and the rest of the world.

Bob Meets World is raffling off his MacBook and a Nintendo Wii. This one will cost $10, but think of it as buying a link back from a Google PageRank 5 blog (this is helpful, trust me). Details are on the site.

If you’re trying to make money at home, Make Money From Home Opportunity is a place that can help with that. He gives some good tips on how to make money from home in practical ways. And, hey - He’s giving away $100 and a Free Linkback, too!

And, lastly, here’s a contest from Socrates O’Doul. No, he’s not a Ancient Greek fan of non-alcoholic beer, he runs a blog about making money online (hence the blog name, “Making Money Online with Socrates O’Doul”).

Now, the first thing that you’ll notice about this blog is that he’s got old (50’s style) pinups all over his site. Sure, for about 49% of the population, that’s great eye-candy, but what’s it got to do with making money online? This post will clear that up for you. A lot of folks will find it offensive, but it’s true.

The great thing about ‘ol Socrates’ website is that he’s a straight shooter. He isn’t going to lead you down a path and then end up taking your money for bad advice that either will never work or you’ll never implement because step #1 is “Start with a Google Pagerank 9 blog.”

There are tons more sites out there with all sorts of giveaways if you’ve got a blog. Just do a Google search for blog contests and you’ll see a ton of places for you to enter.

And remember, for every comment that you leave, every site that you link to, or every new blog that you show up on, you’re expanding your presence and letting more people know about you. Yes, it’s a slow process, but it’ll bring in more and more people, some of whom will be willing to help you out with your job search.
