Got a Bad Boss? He’ll Probably Be Promoted.

Got a Bad Boss? He'll probably be promoted.Your worst fears have been realized. Bad Bosses Get Ahead.

This was a study that asked people what happened to a “workplace tyrant”. Did the company ultimately get rid of him or did they kick him upstairs?

As the study leaders noted: “The fact that 64.2 percent of the respondents indicated that either nothing at all or something positive happened to the bad leader is rather remarkable — remarkably disturbing.”

That means that the crappy boss you have today is likely to become more important / powerful as time goes on instead of being “found out” and removed from his position.

While the report goes on to shame upper management (who were probably bad bosses themselves) about this situation, the real question is what do you do about this problem?

THE SOLUTION TO THE “BAD BOSS” PROBLEM

My simple answer is this: If you’ve got a bad boss now who has been with the company for more than a year, your company knows what they have. And they are more likely to promote him than fire him.

If you can’t stand working for him now, understand that he’s going to become a larger and larger influence on the company’s culture.

Rather than expecting your company to change, the more realistic course is to start looking for a new company / boss / job that doesn’t have the same problem.

That’s the wonderful part about living in a free society where jobs abound (and they do) - you can take charge of your own career and do something about your problems.

So, get out there and start doing!
