Fun Stuff For Short Attention Spans

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Fun Stuff for Short Attention SpansSince I reviewed some resume blogs the other day, I’m not going to talk about your blog today.

Perhaps reviewing resume blogs will become a Saturday thing. If you’d like your blog reviewed (and are using it / have used it to get a job), shoot me an e-mail at dsweet-at-fracat.com

But, for today, I’ll just push you in the direction of a game for whenever you have a free 4 seconds.

This way, you can still get your video game fix for the day, but it won’t consume you and keep you from working. Unless you start stringing together those 4 seconds….

This is also a great game for those of us who at least seem like we have ADD. Even we can focus for 4 sec… Ooo! Look! Something shiny!

Friday Fun: My Demotivator For You

Friday, June 15th, 2007

FRACAT DemotivatorIs there some old, grizzled veteran in your industry that you look up to?

Someone who has been there through all of the ups and downs and still survived?

One of the “old-timers” who knows where all the bodies are buried and so is left alone for the most part?

It’s just that kind of person I think that would have this poster up in his office:

Burnout: That Special Day in Your Career When You Figure Out 40 Hours Pays the Same as 80 Hours

(click on the poster for a larger, easier to read version)

If you don’t like this one, you can make your own Demotivator Poster.

NOTE: Be sure to do this after Noon today. After that, the boss won’t be back ’til Monday.

Enjoy the Weekend!

FRIDAY FUN STUFF: Are You A Rock Star?

Friday, June 9th, 2006

Are you the next Big Rock Star?I know you mightily push papers, valiently stay awake at several meetings a day, and bravely resist the urge to beat your boss with a stapler every single day.  But, and I know this is crazy, what if that isn’t your real calling in life?

Are you really a rock star waiting to be discovered?

Well, wait no more!  Austin, TX, the “live music capital of the world”, is offering a Rock Star Package! Have a little vacation, get some recording studio time, and (finally!) cut your “big break” CD.

So get on out to the Rock Star Package Reservation Page and book your dream.

Are you done?  Good.  Because there’s another pile of paper waiting for you on your desk.

Enjoy the Search!

FRIDAY FUN STUFF: Midway Games

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Okay, I realize that I’m speaking to people of a “certain age” here, but here goes….

Do you remember wasting hours and hours and hours of time (and hundreds of quarters) at video game arcades, drug stores, and convenience stores throughout your childhood?

Do you remember when Defender was the coolest new game that you ever saw and you were able to rescue every single human?

Well, those games are back - and you don’t have to waste the quarters to play ‘em.  (Your time, on the other hand, will be wasted just as much…)

Midway has posted their Midway Classic Games here.
Oh, by the way.  You remember how low-tech these games were?  They still are.  You’ll have to use Internet Explorer (ie. not Mozilla / Netscape / Firefox) to play them.

Have a great weekend!

FRIDAY FUN STUFF: Flexball

Friday, May 12th, 2006

Here’s a game that is simple, but strangely addictive.

This is, of course, the very worst type of game because you’ll be trying to hit a high score all day while dodging your boss.

Sorry about that!

But, on the other hand, you weren’t going to get that much done on a Friday anyway, were you?

Have a Great Weekend!

FRIDAY FUN STUFF: Deal or No Deal Banker’s Blog

Friday, April 28th, 2006

So, judging from the numbers of viewers, about 25% of you have seen the NBC Show “Deal or No Deal“.

Generally, I know that a lot of technically-oriented people despise the show because it is all based on chance and there is no real skill involved (other than overcoming your own greed).

But, I also know that these same people watch regularly to make fun of everyone involved.

In any case, in an interesting marketing move, they’ve given the Banker his own Blog where he says nasty things about the contestants.

For instance, tonight a contestant returns that the Banker calls, “the Ultimate Nerd” who he will “dismantle this dork and permanently disable his joystick.”

And, if you like, you can join the 1017 others in telling the Banker what you think about him… Don’t worry - you don’t need to be kind.
Have a great weekend!
